Opportunitv:
This position is suitable for a Rabbi who is interested in working in an active, vibrant
and growing Orthodox Shul. We are looking for a candidate who will bring education,
spirituality and energy to the Shul. Our Young lsrael comprises families of all age groups
and backgrounds. The community is centrally located on Long lsland. There are a variety
of Jewish day schools and yeshivot, a mikvah and numerous kosher stores and
restaurants in the immediate vicinity and within a short drive of West Hempstead.

Qualifications:
The Assistant Rabbi must have received a college degree from a recognized
college or university, as well as Semicha from a recognized yeshiva. He must agree with
the Religious Zionist philosophy of our shul and Senior Rabbi.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Senior Rabbi as determined and directed by the Senior Rabbi.
    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    A. Giving drashos and shiurim during the week, Shabbos and Yom Tov (as
    needed).
    B. Bar/Bat Mitzvah advising and mentoring.
    C. Involvement in Rabbinic decisions (both halachic and non-halachic).
    D. Answering Halachic questions.
    E. Working in cooperation with other community Jewish organizations and
    synagogues.
    F. Coordinate or assist in the coordination of the adult education program and
    other shul/community wide programs as needed.
  2. Be present in the synagogue and community during any time of the year when the
    Senior Rabbi is away and to assume the normal speaking and teaching sbhedule
    of the Senior Rabbi. Be available to serve as the shul's representative any time the
    Senior Rabbi is unavailable.
  3. Coordinate with the Senior Rabbi for hospital visits and Shiva visits (including
    attending Shiva minyanim) on behalf of the synagogue, as well as other lifecycle
    events.
  4. Be prepared to assume any other Rabbinic responsibilities as may be deemed
    necessary.

The Young lsrael of West Hempstead has been blessed over the years with Rabbinical
leadership that synthesized scholarly ability with love and care for its membership. We
are looking for an Assistant Rabbi that will continue to bring these elements to our shul.
